How many people can M/V MONHEGAN carry?
MONHEGAN is permitted under US Coast Guard regulations to carry up to six (6) passengers. This includes infants and children.
Can children come on board?
Yes! Our charters and tours are perfect for the entire family. Children under 10 are encouraged to wear life jackets, which we provide.
What is provided on board?
Casco Bay Custom Charters provides a licensed captain and deckhand for each charter. Your deckhand will serve as your tour guide and is happy to assist in serving any food or beverages on board. In addition, M/V MONHEGAN is stocked with:
--a cooler and ice
--plates, glasses, serving trays, cutlery, and utensils
--corkscrew and wine glasses
--propane grill (must be requested in advance)

How do we make a reservation?
2 ways: Some of our most popular private charters can be booked online. For customized experiences, simply contact us by phone or through our website, and we will create your perfect itinerary. Once complete, we will email you a link to our online reservation system where you can review the itinerary and finalize your reservation. We accept all major credit cards.

Is food provided on board?
Some charters include food. Please see your confirmation email for specifics on what your charter provides, or contact us if you would like more information on available food options. In addition, our guests are welcome to bring aboard any food or beverages they desire.
Can guests bring food on board?
Yes! Our guests are welcome to bring aboard any food or beverages they desire. A cooler with ice is provided, and M/V MONHEGAN is stocked with basic dishware, cutlery, utensils, glassware, etc. We are happy to assist in serving you while aboard.
Can guests bring alcohol on board?
Yes! Alcohol may be responsibly consumed by our guests of legal age. We provide a cooler, ice, glassware, and a corkscrew. Please note that per federal regulations, marijuana or marijuana-containing products cannot be brought on board despite recent changes under Maine State law.
Can guests purchase food or drinks on board?
No. We do not sell any food or drinks on board. Bottled water is available at no charge. In addition, lunch is provided on our Lunch on Casco Bay Foodie Cruise, and optional food service is available on some charters with prior arrangement. Please see your confirmation email for specifics about your reservation, or contact us with any questions about available food options.
Can guests go ashore on islands in Casco Bay?
Yes! Some of Casco Bay’s islands are vibrant communities unto themselves. Peaks Island is actually part of the city of Portland. Long Island and Chebeague Island are their own towns. Cliff Island is a very small island community. Other islands are sparsely populated or uninhabited. If you are interested in spending time on some of Casco Bay’s islands, just let us know when we are creating your charter itinerary.
Is there a bathroom on board?
Yes! M/V MONHEGAN is equipped with an environmentally friendly composting toilet. The “head” or bathroom compartment is small, but private and functional.
What if it rains?
M/V MONHEGAN is fitted with a retractable cover over the back deck. This provides shaded comfort on hot, sunny days and protection from rain if encountered. Clear side panels can be lowered as well.
What if the weather is bad?
Our charters and tours run rain or shine as long as wind and sea conditions are deemed by the captain to be safe. MONHEGAN is fitted with a retractable enclosure over the back deck in case of wet or windy weather. We watch the weather forecasts closely, and if we are concerned conditions will not be favorable, we will contact you in advance to discuss options. The bottom line is that we want all of our guests to have a comfortable, enjoyable experience with us.
What about seasickness?
Generally, this isn’t a problem...knock on wood. Many of our routes are well protected within Casco Bay, and we watch weather and sea forecasts closely and plan ahead to provide as smooth an experience as possible. If we are worried conditions will not be favorable, we will contact you in advance to discuss options.
What is your cancellation policy?
Full payment is required at the time of booking to hold your reservation. If you need to cancel, we provide a 50% refund on cancellations made more than 7 days in advance. No refund is provided on cancellations made less than 7 days before your charter departure. HOWEVER, in the event of trip interruption or circumstances beyond our guests’ control, we will happily offer rebooking or full refund with documented proof of the situation. In the event of adverse sea or weather conditions (as determined by the Captain), we will provide rebooking or full refund. Any charters or tours cancelled by Casco Bay Custom Charters will receive a full refund.
Where do the charters start?
Unless arranged in advance, all private charters start and finish at our dock at South Port Marine, 14 Ocean Street, South Portland, Maine, 04106. This location is just across the Casco Bay Bridge from Portland’s Old Port (about a 5-minute drive). Free parking is available. Alternative pickup/dropoff locations include Portland’s Old Port, Peaks Island, Great Diamond Island, House Island, & Falmouth Town Landing. Please contact us to arrange alternative pickup/dropoff.
What about tipping? Is it required?
Tips are not required, but if you wish to acknowledge the excellent service of your captain and deckhand, they are graciously accepted.
