Leave the crowds and join us aboard our Maine-built, wooden vessels for a private two-hour sightseeing & lighthouse viewing tour capped by a stunning Maine sunset. Our usual route includes cruising past Portland Head Light, Maine’s oldest and arguably most iconic lighthouse, as well as Bug Light, Spring Point Light, Fort Gorges, Fort Scammel, and Ram Island Light.
Keep an eye out for bald eagles high up in pine trees on the rocky coastline, and look for the the seals at Halfway Rock on the outskirts of Portland Harbor. Then revel in the beauty as your captain turns your vessel toward home, and we cruise into the setting sun as it silhouettes the Portland skyline.
Sunset is our favorite time to be on the water. The winds and seas seem to calm, and the whole world appears to pause as the sun dips low in the sky casting everything in a soft, warm light. There’s no better way to enjoy a few hours on the water with your closest friends or family. This 2-hour charter follows a similar route to our daytime lighthouse and sightseeing charters, so you’ll still get to see all of our best coastal sights.
As Portland’s only full service private charter operator, we include both a captain and deckhand on every charter. Your deckhand serves as your personal charter host, serving any food and drinks you have ordered for your cruise, bringing the history and scenery to life with fun facts and anecdotes, and keeping a sharp eye out for seals, eagles, and other wildlife we frequently see during the evening hours.
As with all of our 2-hour charters aboard MONHEGAN, we are pleased to offer upgrades that include onboard catering and all-inclusive drinks packages featuring locally brewed beer, spiked seltzers, and canned cocktails plus imported wines and non-alcoholic beverages. For those really special occasions, we also offer custom catering and premium wines and champagnes.
We are honored to offer Maine-sourced onboard catering options. Our private sunset boat tours are the perfect way to enjoy a charcuterie board or other light bites before dinner ashore; or choose from our salads, sandwiches, skewers and bowls to create a made-to-order dinner aboard. Guests may order catering at the time of booking or any time after booking up to 72 hours prior to departure. Our guests are welcome to bring aboard their own food if they wish.
No sunset cruise is complete without some libations, and we proudly offer a variety of Maine-brewed beers, hard seltzers, and cocktails along with imported wines and champagnes plus a nice selection of non-alcoholic beverages. The easiest way to sample a little bit of everything is to select our “all-inclusive” drinks option at checkout. This option promises unlimited beer, seltzers, canned cocktails, plus red, white, rose, and sparkling wine selections.
We also offer premium wines and champagnes that can be ordered up to 72 hours in advance. These premium selections are not included in the “all inclusive” drinks option. Lastly, our guests can purchase drinks a la carte on board (no need to bring cash- we can simply charge your payment card on file).
Often, when our small group vessel MONHEGAN is fully booked, we will open up additional availability aboard our large group vessel, MARIE L.
